Leah joined the SUSI&James team in April 2022 as a software developer. Due to her individual experiences, which she brings in from several years of research operation, Leah has a specialized expertise, for example in the field of Machine Learning.
"SUSI&James to me is about advancing work process automation and natural language understanding in the industry."
Leah studied computer science at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences in the master's program with a focus on software engineering. In the process, she wrote her master's thesis on "Reconstruction of a complete neural model from the data of real spiking neurons", where her goal was to present an algorithm to construct neuron parameters for a computational model from measured spiking neuron data. Leah draws her technical interest from her enthusiasm for software development. Outside of work, Leah enjoys literature, painting, listening to music, and watching movies and series.
At the Technical University of Darmstadt, Leah supported various research projects for 3 years. At this time, Leah had a lot of exposure to neuroscience and high performance computing. Thereby she learned some of the best practices in software development and also published several papers on her scientific work.
Additionally, she mentored students on their theses and helped prepare lectures and assignments. Through her research position, Leah was able to gain expertise in diverse topics, such as Persistence Layers, Data Mining and Analysis, Information Retrieval, Elastic search, etc. expertise. Programming languages Leah is proficient in include Haskell, Java, C / C++ / C#, and Python, which she now primarily uses at SUSI&James.
Leah became aware of our company through a job posting on SUSI&James' LinkedIn profile.
"I want to grow personally and professionally with SUSI&James and also be able to work with new technologies.”
As a software developer, Leah writes source code, tests software and conducts code reviews. Creativity and a willingness to learn are two important characteristics for Leah: "Basically, I have to think about what the requirements of the feature are. If it's something complex, then I think about the architecture. And that's what you have to be reasonably creative for."
Almost daily, she attends project meetings to discuss which responsibilities in a project will be taken on by whom. "In the projects, we have weekly sprints where we work on prioritized tasks." With follow-up tasks, these are further expanded, so Leah has already been involved in several exciting projects. These include projects such as the SUSI front desk, automotive test drive support, messenger development using Rasa, and EVA development.
Leah is particularly excited about the EVA project because it is used as a universal solution in all other projects and represents a promising vision of SUSI&James. Leah also contributes to the continuous development of EVA, always introducing new features. Leah is characterized by her will to move the company forward, to strengthen communication within the team as well as to establish development processes in order to improve SUSI&James' overall work.
Leah is politically engaged. She is passionate about diverse issues that move her, including: Climate Action, Peace Policy, and Social Policy. She exhibits an enthusiasm for queer movements and equal opportunity.
We thank Leah for the interview and are excited to have you on the team!
